About Reads & Weeds

Why reads and weeds?

I’ve been a bookworm all my life. My eyes have suffered. My mom would say ‘You gonna ruin your eyes readin’ in dark all the time!’ and she was RIGHT! Bless her sweet heart.

I’ve lived a million lives through books. Thanks for the adventures on a million flights James Patterson. I owe you one. Thanks for making me laugh while learning science stuff Mary Roach. Keep that shit up. You got a gift girl…..BUT! BUT!.....there are a million MORE lives to read!  How exciting!

How is anyone EVER bored? GEEZ.

How grateful I am to the teachers who taught me, to the ones who encouraged me to read…..what a gift you gave me. It has probably saved my life several times.

What would I have been like in elementary school without ‘Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing’ and ‘Superfudge’? Who would I be if I hadn’t read ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ and ‘Skinny Legs and All’ in college? How would I have run my life in my twenties and thirties without ‘The Greatest Salesman in the World’ and ‘Awaken the Giant Within’? Who would I have been in my thirties without anything by John Irving or anything about spiritual growth that I could get my hands on.

Oh my Oh wow ……The way my mind has changed!

And then there is the magic cannabis plant……that is also fun to share…..that relaxes me and focuses my mind, that tunes me into the music and the sounds of my friends’ voices and reminds me not to take things so seriously AND soothes my joints. So grateful for that plant. So grateful for the healing and the community and the ceremony. Amen.

And don’t even get me started about the love I have for fucking awesome conversations with small groups of friends…..SIGN ME UP! Yes yes let’s gather and share and laugh and discover and grow together!

Sooooo-obviously….if you READ with WEEDS and friends…….I mean it really can’t be beat.

Oh-yeah-and we record it to share the love with you fine folks.

Join us. Won’t you?

I’m a human female originating from the southeastern region of part of the Western Hemisphere on the planet known as earth. I like puppies. I like coconuts. I like making people laugh. I’m good at sellin stuff sometimes. I’m doin my best over here I swear. Life is basically fun for me when I don’t let myself get too scared.

I sleep 8 hours a night. I get to dance a lot. I get to wear jeans sometimes but be fancy sometimes too so that’s pretty cool. I believe I’m taller than the average female and I require corrective eyewear. I spend most of my time in my imagination but am aware that I might come across as quite the practical person, which I find baffling but am thankful for.

I want to connect with everyone. I want everyone to be connected. I think things are groovier that way. I feel I am on a mission to facilitate this reality.

Brown hair/Brown Eyes. Decent whistler. A little bossy. Likes to cuddle. Eats pretty much anything….so probably a little gassy at times. Win some/Lose some.

Kris Walton came to reading late. A "struggling reader" until high school when marijuana, the south, and isolation pushed her to read more and read more thoughtfully. Her first favorite book was The Color Purple. She met Shelly in fourth grade, but they somehow didn't totally bond until about tenth grade. It was in part because they were both sopranos in choir, and because Shelly was their teacher's favorite and Kris was, well, better with Shelly next to her. She ran away at 18 and followed that band to Colorado. She's lived all over the state--from Leadville, to Breckenridge, to the Front Range. Books and weed kept her sane and alive through her three marriages to alcoholics and teaching in public schools; naively constructed measures meant to mitigate her childhood. Books, weed, the woods, writing--those were her pathways to healing. Friends? Certainly: She and Shelly always kept in touch. Eventually, she doubled down on a new vision for her life and got her MFA in creative writing. Now, a Real Estate agent, Kris writes daily, reads as much as possible, and makes it a priority to diversify her library. Weed is a given, mostly CBD.
